For street photography this helps eliminate the step having to worry about focus. The flow of a city street is always changing and evolving every second. The wide angle lenses have a much shorter distance to infinity focus which makes them more suitable for hyperfocal shooting. What I like about shooting this way on the street it gives a general uniform view similar to how the eye sees naturally.
I found this image I think demonstrates what I mean using the Pentax 28mm ƒ2 A-series set to the hyperfocal markings. The dog walker was very close 5f/1m. There is a very nice balance to the focus of this image even with the proximity of the foreground objects which remain in focus while the focus point is set at 10f/3.5m.
