Todays K-1 Torture Test

.
Today there was a Kayak competition at our local Kayak course on the Wisconsin River. So I went down to the river with my K-1 and adapted Nikkor 105/2 DC lens to shoot a picture or two.

In about 1.5 hours, I shot 2,000 - 3,000 photos with my K-1 camera. Shot on continuous high, jpgs only. Completely filled up one 64 GB card and most of another. Talk about rapid fire, machine gun shooting!

Towards the very end of the shoot, my K-1 started to act up (buttons didn't work properly, lock ups, everything was pretty funky). Probably due to a build up of heat in the camera. By the time I got home my K-1 was just fine again and ready for the next assignment.

Lesson to self... Don't shoot over 2,000 photos in rapid succession ever again.

Also, I could hardly believe that I did all of that shooting on just one Pentax battery!

Great shot. I think the B&W adds to the drama. I was about to say I can't imagine sorting through over 2000 shots when I realized I do that every other week on my trail cams (for not very many "keepers").

Nice! Would not have thought that would be possible, especially on one battery! Good to know what is possible though. Like the drama and action captured in the shot.

Shooting that heavily keeps you from chimping I bet that helps out the battery's life. 📷 Nice capture looking toward to seeing more

Excellent shot. Not bad for an old manual focus lens too.

Probably due to a build up of heat in the camera.
Camera body temperature is recorded in the image EXIF. It should be possible (with EXIFTOOL and some patience) to get enough data to do a plot of the results over your shooting period.

Great shot. What was the ambient temperature? I've shot 1500 and 3500 nearly continuous on several different occasions, and shot video continuous for 4 hours and not experienced any issues. (The ambient temp was never over 95F, though.)

Well done! I too would be interested in knowing how high the camera temperature reached during shooting.

Likely the battery was getting low.

For events, I'll turn the LCD preview off completely. I'll only chimp periodically.
It saves on battery and heat. Although with the shooting you did, (and especially with the build of the K1), the LCD probably doesn't add much to the internal heat issue.

It would be interesting to use an EXIF tool to look at the camera body temp at that time.

The temperature during the shooting was about 85 degrees F.

it's designed to take hundreds of thousands of photographs, and as long as batteries are charged it usually doesn't stop. In most cases, Pentax cameras aren't used anymore when leaving place to a newer model.
