I've found that you can crop a photo quite substantially and still have a decent shot.

Here's the original, as seen in Lightroom, no corrections:

This is a lily at my work, right next to where I usually park.

So, did a bit of a crop, and got a pretty nice shot out of it. The black bits is simply road dust. Shot with the K-1 and the M 50mm F1.7. SMC Pentax-M 50mm F1.7 Reviews - M Prime Lenses - Pentax Lens Reviews & Lens Database

What surprised me was the amount of detail in this shot - see further crop below:

And, then just to be silly....

If you calculate, or try to visualise, the tiny bit of a 36x24mm sensor that's responsible for the part of the image in the final crop, it's deeply impressive!

Yes, I suspect so. Aaarghh. Would it not be nice if the same grip worked on K-5, K-3 and K-1!
They all take the same battery.

Finally got the mark II and all my M42 Takumars are working out like magic: 50mm f1.4 and f4.0 macro, 28mm f3.5, 135mm f3.5 and Bayonnet 80-200mm f4.5. I have them set up with the AF at AF.S, the mode at AF and focus is right on confirmed with the "beep" and focus indicator just with a turn of the focusing ring with your spare index finger and your thumb of the AF button. Using pixel shift with those lenses makes for outstanding images for a fraction of the cost for those who don't need fancy AF systems.

Indeed. Pity the grip is so expensive. I really liked using a grip with my K-5.

The K-1 grip is about $200 US, what is that in NZ dollars?

NZ$292.00 + freight. (And possibly 15% GST on top of that) So that adds up a bit.

What if one was sent to you for Christmas?

Would you have to pay GST on a gift?

And would the gov want to impose an import duty on it?

I'm looking at a secondhand one at the moment. That would avoid the GST. Additional duties only apply to items over about US$260. At which point duty goes to about $112.00 So, it pays to stay under that threshold.

It is a solid piece of gear for sure. The features and the photos are worth the price.

Got my K1 at Henry's in Halifax. Get ready to explore these screw mounts on the K1 and bring them back to life! You'll love it, in fact, the Pentax niche is getting deeper and I'm nor sure I care what other others are using any more and even what they are saying about our brand.
