I think it just needs an adjustment....the colors are there and it focus' nearby well, it only fails in the upper part of the telephoto range. I think BigMackCam's suggestion is a good one...

You can get better image quality from other the lenses for the same or even less money, but then you don't get the focal length range and constant f/2.8 aperture.

not quite new! but there is no problem in using and "old" because the lens is built with the feeling that it is a tank and optical is very high quality - it offers more than you have to pay for ,if you are trying on ebay can be found 28-80 / 2.8 (allegedly optically not as good as above but it has a perfect range - which is still a little more payable )
