Best on camera field monitor

Good evening,

I'm looking for a good quality but won't break the bank kinda camera field monitor. So far the Feelworld FW703 7" is where I'm leaning. Thoughts?

I have the Feelworld 7" HD 1920*1440 IPS TFT-LCD DSLR Video On Camera Monitor with HDMI which works fine for my needs. It is compatible with my Pentax K20D straight out of the box. I needed to purchase a Micro-HDMI to HDMI Cable to use it with my Pentax K-1 Mark II. Prior to purchasing the Feelworld monitor, I was using a 7" portable TV which worked fine for my needs but the battery life was not satisfactory.

Thanks Dennis. How do you like the K-1 Mark II? Did you have the K-1 before you purchased the Mark II? I do love my K-1.

I did not own the K-1 before purchasing the K-1 Mark II. I am delighted with the performance of the K-1 Mark II and I consider it to be an excellent value for what I want in a full frame dSLR camera body. There are a couple of additional features that I would like the camera to have that are extremely important to me but I decided to not wait for something that was likely to never happen.

Kelvin 5500, when your field monitor is on does the subject show on your K-1 as well. In other words, displays shows the same image on the field monitor and the K-1? In order to see the image I have to use live view.

With an external monitor connected to the camera via HDMI cable, turn on Live View to send the electronic view to the external monitor. The camera built-in monitor screen is simultaneously disabled which significantly extends the camera battery life. Everything that you would usually see on the camera monitor screen is then displayed only on the external monitor; including menu screens, White Balance settings and Custom Image settings. Whenever you want to revert back to using the camera built-in monitor screen, just turn off the power button on the external monitor and the camera will automatically switch back to the built-in monitor. You do not need to disconnect the HDMI cable to do this.

I hope this information helps you.

"Feelworld 7" HD 1920*1440 IPS TFT-LCD DSLR Video On Camera Monitor with HDMI"

That product's name combined with the fact that is actually has a native screen resolution of 800x480 somehow doesn't inspire thoughts of honesty and quality.

I know this is a bit off topic, but does an external monitor store images as well as display live view?

Most just display the camera's HDMI output. A few field monitors like the Atomos Ninja do let you store the HDMI video output from the camera, but as far as I know, since they are only using HDMI they lack access to the camera file system, so can't suck up your camera's full-res RAW or JPEG stills directly.

I am still shopping for an external monitor. Is there a monitor that is powered by the Pentax K1 Mark ii or will accept the D Li90 as a power source? I see monitors that can be powered by Canon and Sony batteries. I am hoping the same is true for Pentax.

Thanks
Mike
