Pentax 150-450mm + Pentax Convertor 1.4

Going to a wildlife photo tour.
I am thinking of this setup: K-1 II with a Pentax 150-450mm + Pentax 1.4 convertor
Is anyone has experience with this setup?
I know the convertor will create black corners.
Is there in the Market any modern convertor for full frame with AF and contacts?
Thanks
Gérard

Gerard - I will test a Sigma EX 1.4x TC on that lens camera for you. This TC is full frame.

It seems at least one genuine Pentax full frame teleconvertor is under development, expected in the centenary year 2019.

I use the DFA 150-450 + Pentax 1.4x TC on a K-1 quite a bit, and am happy with the combination.
There is a bit of vignetting but in my opinion it's minor and causes me no concern.
A big advantage of the 1.4x TC is that it corrects the focal length, and stores the lens combination in the exif.

Cheers,
Terry

I ran resolution chart experiments with the 1.4X + 150~450mm and posted them on PF years back. I found little difference in resolution between the lens @ 450mm without and with the 1.4X. In other words, if you crop an image taken @ 450mm without the TC & compare to one taken with the 1.4X, there is essentially no difference. So, if you like the idea of shooting @ about 600mm and don't mind losing an f-stop, the 1.4X will work fine. However, you can get essentially indistinguishable results by using the lens without TC, then cropping a bit more.

The Sigma EX 1.4x DOES NOT WORK. So do not try it. It lacks the two gold contacts needed for AFing.

I will try the Tamron F 1.4x instead and report back soon

We actually did a direct review of this combo. Guess it's about time to publish it:

Thanks Adam - interesting results with the TC. I will have a look at what the Tamron TC can do as a full frame alternative. Incidentally, very basic comparison of the Sigma TC showed similar results (i.e. no loss in image quality) but I was manual focusing to get this outcome.

I would welcome that, and I would pre-order it now if I could!

But while I've heard rumours and wishes, I haven't seen solid evidence that it is imminent, and it isn't on the lens roadmap.

What do you know about this that I don't know?

I think Asahiman reported this.

Especially good timing since it's at the lowest price I can find going back through the history in the price finder tool - black Friday deal at B&H that goes through Monday for $396.95. Haven't decided if it makes sense for my shooting though. Would like to know how a modified baffle 60-250 works with the DA 1.4x on full frame. If we really have a 2x for full frame coming out this upcoming year, then waiting would seem best.

Asahi Man's post:

FF TC - full frame teleconverter - Page 8 - PentaxForums.com

He's generally pretty close to the source.
