Thanks to all for their contributions.
Godox is now on the list.

When they were reverse engineered, there were only APS-C Pentaxes to test with.
Hopefully now with the relative success of the K-1, we are now going to see more forward-engineered 3rd party flashguns on the market.

Indeed, the K-1 manual does say the Mark I versions of the AF360 and 540 are both still fully compatible with the K-1.
This thread is mainly to discuss and list 3rd party flashguns that may not otherwise be known to function well on the K-1.

I don't know of any camera company that licenses its flash protocols, Ash, they all have to be reverse engineered.

Roger, that. I should have said engineered with the ability to test drive it on the camera itself for compatibility.

Shanny SN600FGZ

From another Thread
QuoteOriginally posted by BentaxGer Quote
I had some time for more testing and this is what i found out:

On my K1 the automatic "zoom function" of the head didn't work.
On K5 / II K3 / II no problems.

During testing i had suddenly a strange malfunction you can see here: Shanny SN600FGZ - YouTube

I reseted the Shanny to factory default and suddenly the zoom was also working with my K1. But what still does not work is the AF light (goes with K5 / 3)
But it works when the K1 is set to Crop mode?!

I tested the Shanny also with different lenses. The automatic adjustment is never over 80mm (also not with the 50-135 or 80-200)!
Manually there are still 85, 105 135 & 200 possible

What is still interesting with the Tamron 28-75 on K3 / K5 are the adjustments of the head to the focal range as follows:

Tamron 28-75 2.8 (K5 / K3) / Shanny:

28mm / 24mm
35mm / 35mm
50mm / 55mm (sometimes 45mm depending on accuracy)
75mm / 80mm

DA 50-135 2.8 (K5 / K3) / Shanny to K3 / K5:

50mm / 45mm
60mm / 55mm
70-135mm / 80mm

On the K1 it behaves differently

Tamron 28-75 2.8 (K1) / Shanny in FF mode:

28mm / 20mm
35mm / 24mm
50mm / 35mm
60mm / 35mm (sometimes 40mm)
75mm / 55mm

Tamron 28-75 2.8 (K1) / Shanny in Crop mode:

28mm / 24mm
35mm / 35mm
50mm / 45mm
60mm / 55mm
75mm / 80mm

Pro:
Good recyclingtime, no problems
P-TTL works
HSS works
Everywhere rubber pads / nipples
Very good workmanship
Menu is super intuitive
Quick release locking mechanism

Cons:
No working AF light with K1 (Only in FF mode)
Not updateable

Sorry for my bad english

Does a AF-330FTZ is compatible with a K1 ?

I tried with mine, but the battery leaked their acid. I had to disassemble everything and clean the oxydation on the contacts. By the way, Phosphoric acid with water cleans the contact perfectly.

Regards,
Benoît.

It is a TTL flash. K1 needs a P-TTL capable flash for any type of auto exposure.

Should work in manual flash exposure mode

Ok, thanks a lot.
I wonder witch Flash could be equivalent to the onboard flash on a K7 ? just to add a bit of light in the center at 1 or 2 meter, to compense a small back-light?

Benoît.
What about the AF201 FG? Low guide number of 20 so a little more powerful than an onboard flash but way less powerful than the 360 or 540.

Metz 44 AF-1 this one I had for my k30 and after the firmware update it is even better on the K1. A great combo IMO.

I think this would be a good option to sub for an onboard flash.

I had a look to the 360, it was equivalent in size with my 330FTZ, and easyer to put it in a bag when it is in his housing than the 330. I got it.

I own the 201, 330, 360 and 540... I think the 360 size difference is not insignificant. It is taller and heavier.
