RICOH IMAGING COMPANY, LTD. wishes to announce the release of Firmware Update Software Version 1.51 for PENTAX K-1.

Optimized performance when attaching new lens HD PENTAX-DA*11-18mmF2.8ED DC AW.

Done. However, I'm surprised there is an update to optimise a FF camera for an APS-C lens.

Works both ways - eg the last KP firmware:

Optimized performance when attaching new lens HD PENTAX-D FA*50mmF1.4 SDM AW.

I think each firmware update also includes a host of minor fixes and tweaks, and such lens support updates are just a handy headline.

Anyone noticed any unmentioned differences or new features? My K-1 has been running stable without any software issues or bugs at all. That's all i want from a firmware.

K-1 has a crop mode. And with a lens as wide as this one is, distortion is relevant and any correction via software is welcome.

The Pentax K1 has a crop mode (manually set or auto) so that apsc lenses can be used with a K1. It makes sense for when people upgraded to full frame, but less for a new apsc lens. Anyway, the firmware update is free of charge and not mandatory. I don't plan to buy the 11-18, I have the 15-30, so I won't update the firmware versions of my K1 and K1 II, they just work fine the way they are.

I have no plans to buy the 11-18mm lens either. My K-1 II seems to be working fine as well but updated anyway because of this "Changes to V1.02. Improved stability for general performance." Exactly what they mean by that I have no idea. But the update took maybe three minutes out of my day so what the heck.
