Didn't realize how many AF FF lenses I had until I got my K-1

It's funny how many lenses I have accumulated that are fully functional on the K-1. I just did not really realize how many lenses I have gotten in packages that are both FF capable and autofocus. I knew that all the old MF lenses were FF capable, and am very glad that I kept one of the Vivitar 19/3.8 lenses that I got in a package (selling the other more than paid for all the other gear I got) because UWA lenses for FF are scarce and dear.

F50/1.7
F50/2.8 Macro

F28-80
F35-70
F35-105
F35-135
F70-210
F80-200
FA28-105PZ
Tamron 28-200
Plus three off-brand 100-300 lenses that I need to cull.

I used the FA28-105 and F70-210 all weekend at an event and am very happy with their performance. The F28-105PZ was my main walk around lens along with the Vivitar 19/3.8. The FAJ18-35 did not arrive until I left for the event (and it was purchased specifically as a FF lens by itself from KEH) so I had to use the manual focus lens but with its depth of field and the f's I was using focus was not a challenge on that lens. All together the lenses listed above cost me less than the DFA28-105 costs new.

In reviewing my FF lenses I realized that the Sigma 150-500 I used for my son's soccer games a few years ago was designed as a FF lens (it's a DG model) so I have a pretty sharp long-reach lens in addition to a nice range of zooms. Add in the FA43, FA50/1.4, FA100, and the Tamron 70-200/2.8 that were each purchased a while back and I'm pretty sure I have a solid range of AF options for the K-1.

I'm trying to get a better understanding, and perhaps relieving "the stress" I feel with having lenses that I have no good (well what I think is "good" anyways) reason to use...and not saying they aren't good lenses, but for example, was it for the fun of trying something new, or why did you use the F 70-210 when you have the Tamron 70-200? (SP?) Weight/size? I can never get around to bring "my second best" lens for an occasion unless reasons like that I won't have time to change so must have a zoom instead of prime etc.....or is it just LBA? =)

I have also got a bunch of lenses from packages where I was interested in a certain other lens, but then cursed that my bid won (even if at a good price) and must go though to test it a bit, take pics of it, put an add etc. etc...so I can confidently sell it and i still have 5-6 manual fifty:s that I need to sell

I was shooting relatively slow moving objects and people, not sports where I needed faster glass. The F70-210 weighs 555g and the Tamron 70-200 weighs 1150g. Another factor many don't think about is size, the F70-210 is ~4.5in long and the Tamron 70-200 is 7.5in long. So, the issue was carry weight for the K-1 + Grip, Viv19/3.8, F28-105, FA43, and the 70-200 plus batteries, hoods, etc. In the end, I was very happy with the choice I made.

Anything pre digital will have been designed for 35mm, and thus FF. So, that means all F and FA series lenses are FF.

The F70-210 is the 4.5-5.6 version?

I am in the process of switching from Canon to a K1 and trying to consolidate down to 3-4 lenses, and that covers a range that I find useful. I need to sell a lot of Canon gear, but the price on that lens is very favorable.

Exactly how I use this lens. Plus, going out for a landscape shot, I throw it in the bag, just in case. My one and only mink images were taken on a shopping trip when I spotted one in a small pond near the highway after I just put it in the bag at the last minute. I didn't feel like carrying my 60-250 shopping. I know some people find it hard to believe, but there are a lot of times you just don't want to lug a big lens around.

Yes, its the F70-210 f4-5.6. I've been very happy with it. Yes, I have the Tamron 70-200/2.8 and its sharper and faster but the F70-210 is smaller and, in good light, it is a very under-valued lens IMHO.

Thanks, definitely going to look into that one. I mostly shoot outside anyway.

I've gotten them as low as $30 and as high as $75. My current one cost me $40 and is pristine. Even if you don't like it, typically you can get all, or nearly all, your money out of it if you decide to sell.

Check that everything is listed as clean and SMOOTH (sometimes the zoom and/or focus rings are gritty). And of course that the optics are clean and clear.
Good luck!

Yeah, that one had some marks on the front glass, and I'm not actually ready to purchase yet, but I like that lens at that price are available. Thanks!
