Considering your K-1 use, what are your favourite features.

Considering your K-1 or K-1ii use, what are your favourite features. (and how do you use them?)

Just curious. There are a lot of features, many of which I don't use at all, so I'm wondering how many consider features to be important that I don't use much. My favourite is pixel shift, same camera, more colour depth, more accurate colour, more resolution.

User modes.
Electronic shutter.
Ir trigger and two second delay.
Crop mode for faster shot rate.
Interval to hd.
Gps on, tags all the photos.
Copywrite information in exif. Got my camera back to me when it was stolen.

I use pixelshift often, and am pushing the limits of iso.

I'm new to the K-1ii, so having a lot of fun with customisation.
FX1 = hand held pixel shift, FX2 = outdoor view setting, and C23 Save menu location allows me to save the menu to night vision red light, acting as FX3 in effect for astro purposes so I probably don't need a user position for it now

Edit: Forgot, I leave the dial on ISO so I have complete dial control of exposure. It's a very neat camera. I intend to use it with just the 28-105, FA 50 and Sigma 50 f1.4 EX DG HSM. But I am looking for an inexpensive 24mm for astro, when that chance actually arrives.

- SR (always on), TAv to lower ISO setting but having shutter speed slower than lens FL (taking advantage of SR)
- viewfinder
- 36Mp good sensor
- liveview + ES
- moonlander tilt screen
- Wifi
- IR remote (would prefer to have it done via radio)

Recently I used composition adjust a lot on the K1, for perspective adjustment but also for pulling 4 shifted frames (and it also works with PS => possibility to pull 4 PS frames and stitch them seamlessly, that's 16 frames to make an image with unparalleled quality).

GPS
Various Crops

For Astro:
External LED illumination
Display night /day llumination control
Tilt screen

For sports:
AF-C and focus tracking

I have made so few images with pixel shift...

I enjoy my K-1 but I have sometimes have needs for better lens support.

A sensor that is still in the front row for IQ.
And its massive Dynamic Range.
The backward compatibility
And for a simple feature - the digital preview - chimping without chimping.

Favorite Features I Would Not Live Without:
  • SR (used in dark exteriors and interiors)
  • awesome 36 MPix FF sensor (loved for every shot)
  • high ISO (having lived with 1000 ASA film, ISO 51200 on the K-1 is like butter in comparison)
  • TAv mode (used for ≈90% of shooting)
  • Green button (used usually with spot metering to get a quick reading for M mode shots)
  • Function dial (used in ISO setting so shutter speed, aperture, and ISO have their own e-dials in M mode)
  • electronic level display and auto-horizon leveling
  • stilty-tilty backpanel (used for both low angle overhead shots)
  • GPS (used to keep track of where I took the picture)

Lesser-Used Features that Add to the K-1 Experience:
  • pixel shift (used to hi-res images of textures and landscapes)
  • interval composite mode (used for interesting time-lapse effects)
  • body lights (used at night for changing lenses, duh!)
  • astrotracer (not used enough )

  • Third wheel for ISO
  • Sensor resolution and DR

Things that are not specific to the K-1, but rather to Pentax bodies in general. Just more pronounced with the K-1:
  • Ergonomics
  • Buttons and controlls configurability

* SR (I have essential tremor)
* Flip out viewfinder screen (biaxial and durable)
* Built-in GPS (almost always on)
* Adjustable outdoor LV settings
* Built-in Astrotracer
* Dual card slots

For me (features compared to previous cameras):
* Sensor IQ (allows me to crop more and shoot more handheld in low light)
* DNG Raw format (works great with most software)
* Near perfect feel in my hands
* Tilty screen (I was surprised how useful it is for awkward shooting angles)
* Electronic shutter (for me its usually on in LV to eliminate shutter shock)
* Timed bulb mode (no more using external interval timer)
* AF (much quicker and more consistent than my previous Pentax cameras)
* Auto exposure (much more consistent than K-5 and even more so than K-x, but does under expose a little bit which is usually perfect for preserving highlights)
* Hyper Program (perfect for me walk around - you can instantly lock specific apertures or shutter speeds)
* 2 second self timer (often use it for long exposures rather than a remote)
* SR (works with even my old takumars, to take handheld shots at low shutter speeds)
* GPS for keeping track of where photos taken
* Mount light for changing lenses at night.

Everyone will have their own use cases and features that are important to them, but for me I rarely use the pixel shift and dual card slots are just a nice to have for me.

- Viewfinder (I like the overlay and in particular the always on levels in the viewfinder - apsc models could only do it by taking over the meter display and only horizontal level)
- Controls (generally just like the placement of controls also use the top wheel set to ISO - top wheel is way more useful than I first thought it would be)
- The camera body lights (this has been very handy at night for astro but also in some dark venues)
- Self timer can be set to take many shots (super useful at family gatherings for group shots)
- Articulating screen (has been handy for some tough to get shots and its just super cool how its built)
- SR on all lenses old or new
- Focus peaking in live view for faster manual focusing
- Pixel shift
- High image quality

The feature I don't take advantage of enough is the GPS. Need to remember to have it on when out doing landscapes, and also use the astro tracer.

If I leave the GPS on all the time everyone will know where I live when they come looking for me. But way too often I forget to turn it on when I'm in places I want it.

@Norm What do you use to curate / publish your photos?

Light room gives you a black out zone of your own parameters if you want to omit GPS data.... to address your concern.

Articulating screen and focus peaking. Together they help me to break away from the monotony of shooting at eye level all the time. I always appreciated the articulating screen on the compact MX-1; how nice now having it available when shooting with DSLR quality.

Of course the main thing for me is just the fact that it's full frame and lets film-era lenses work in their intended angle of view again, but I guess that's a spec, not a feature.
