Interference with the Auto Bellows K and Auto Bellows M with the K-1, K-3, and K-3II and potentially other recent bodies is fairly well known. I was suggesting a different bellows (Bellows Unit K), which has about 2mm clearance at the rear standard with the K-3/K-3II* and has been reported to clear the K-1. Have you tried the K-1 with either the Bellows Unit K or Bellows Unit M?

Steve

* I own this bellows and use it with the K-3 in both portrait and landscape orientation. The grip will interfere if rotated clockwise to portrait orientation; likewise, there will be interference with the prism housing if landscape is attempted with the camera upside down. I would expect problems for both on the K-1 too.
Confirmed. Bellows Unit K fits K-1 w/o extension.

No, I have the Auto Bellows A, but I think they are similar to Auto bellows K.

Finally getting back to the Kenko Uniplus 25 extension tube vignetting on the K-1 and bellows or Pentax A*200 f4 macro. Ordered and received original set of 3 Pentax extension tubes. The longest tube is about 25mm so I decided to test it against the Kenko using the bellows and reversed Nikkor 50 enlarging lens.

The examples show the Kenko vignettes heavily while the Pentax tubes do not. The light path size difference between the two tubes is amazing. The smallest Pentax tube allows the K-1 to mount on the bellows.

Tried the Pentax tube with the 200 macro and there's no vignetting. Now to figure out what features are lost using the K-1, 200 macro and an extension tube with no electrical contacts.
thanks,
barondla

From the looks of your images, the Kenko baffle diameter would only need to be enlarged by a few millimetres, to avoid the vignetting. Would you consider dismantling the unit and having the baffle machined out to a suitable diameter?

PS – rough dimensioning from the photo indicates a diameter increase of the order of 20% would be needed.

Thanks for the enlargement estimates. Need to study the Kenko closer to see what can be trimmed out for a bigger opening. The Kenko's electrical contacts make construction more complex.

Sorry your family is battling this. Never easy. Went thru this 2 years ago. We made so many trips to Barnes. Dad has recovered fully. Stay strong.
