I have a K-1 I received day-of-release and it is still a better camera for the way I shoot than any digital camera I’ve ever used. I didn’t upgrade because I also have a KP that has the accelerator chip (which was thought to be a great idea when KP was released) and I actually do like the ability to shoot clean, higher ISO files indoors. But that isn’t my primary use case. For the money I’d get a K-1 and a lens rather than the Mk II. K-1 is still a fabulous camera that was on backorder for months after 1st release. The Mkll doesn’t change that.

Hello all,

thank you very much for the replies! I just ordered the K-1 for 1200 Euros and hope to get it within the next few days. I can't wait!

Cheers,

@TJWest, since you already have the HD FA 28-205/3.5-5.6, you may want to factor in the significant boost in AF performance with K1 II. Or at least this is my own experience.

I've had my K-1 since early 2017 and I'm very pleased with it.

All it would have added for me is complexity which I neither want nor need.

I have the K1 since it came out in 2016 and did not do the upgrade as my style of shooting did not require it. It is still a great camera and I use the DFA24-70/2.8 with it, along with my other primes of AF SLR days.

Just got it today. Definitely brand new, and came with FW 1.51 already installed. Woot. What a piece of kit, the thing is pretty huge. I thought it might be too heavy, but no way, it seems just right!

I will certainly post some pics when I get some time out in the field, but I can already see this thing is light years ahead of my k30.

Comparing the K-30 to the K-1 is like comparing the Mercury Space capsule to the Apollo Moon Mission....Literally light years apart. APS-c effort from 2012 versus 2017 Full Frame. having said that APS-c is a sweet spot for CMOS sensors and the results of these (now) vintage cameras are still excellent. (my K-5II is still a go to body in certain situations). My K-1 is great, but I still rely on my KP and K-3II quite often.

Hi all,

I bought a K30 back in 2012 and still use it to this day (and still quite happy with it tbh).

I am ready to upgrade to FF now though and was wondering, is the K1, which is selling new in Europe for 1200 Euros worth buying over the 1850 euro K1II?

I have the 28-105mm lens, the Tamron 90mm Macro and the 40mm limited which should all do well on the K1.

I could probably get a 43mm limited with the K1 mark 1 for the same price as just the body of the K1 II.

Choices, choices!
Get a second hand K1 with a low shutter count. You can find some for 1000€ or less.

K1 Mark I still worthy today?
I hope so as all mine are the original version, the update didn't offer to me anything else that I needed.

I just went through the process of selling my K1 and KP to fund the K1 MKII, and if I had it to do over again, I would not have. I just don't see enough difference.

That monster will eventually make you wonder if you made the right decision. This is from someone who has a Mark I and a Mark II and when I am out shooting, likely to be carrying both. One body for timelapse and one for stills. I do question my sanity for lugging those bricks. Plus lenses, plus tripods.. etc.

But they are still so much to go out and shoot with. But for that price, I think you made the right decision. The differences are not huge.

having tried both the K1 and K1MII, the notice between the two is apparent (only if you use them side by side). The K1MII does focus faster, and maybe its just me, but i feel the MII does have a faster buffer.

however, the K1 is a very capable camera and with great results. you wont be missing much if you go over it rather than the MII. Both are great options and you will be really happy with the results. So if, to you, saving a few hundred is worth it (perhaps get a better lens with the savings), then go for the K1!
