I thing Ricoh Australia is waiting for the shipment from overseas. I've ordered 16-85mm lens over 3 weeks ago with the large KP grip and I am still waiting for the delivery.

It's not a manufacturing issue. It's simply CRK not wanting to overstock on a not-overly-popular product line. Sigma lenses would be the bulk of their business, not Pentax gear. And of that gear, the full frame bodies probably wont be the biggest sellers either.

Stock ebbs and flows. I got one within a week of ordering through Pentax Australia. They had low stock at the time. If you’re really pressed to get one you could always go to B&H or adorama who ship the same day, getting the delivery completed faster than local shipping.

My well reputated, well stocked local dealer here in southern germany is trying to sell a new K1 Mark I for EUR 1.299 since last december. That is EUR 200,- more then the KP.
Can you imagine taking something into stock, when there is a good probability you never sell it? Or in 6 to 12 month when price are 20% lower?

My dealer has to take one into stock, because people come to him to have a look at a camera bevore buying one (hopefully not on the internet). Not into Pentax specialised dealers will never, ever lay those cameras on stock, when the first novelty driven bunch is sold.

Factories make things in batches. Parent companies distribute to regional distributors in batches. Australia is not a high priority market.

I have no idea what is happening with the Z1. There is like no stock anywhere and no idea if and how many have been sold the last three months. It could be like a few, or a few hundred or a few thousands, but there is little to no information as far as I know.

Woah! Three months!? Mind blown.

I have had a KP battery grip on back order for a month now. I see some items showing a due date of 8/9/19 (reckon the site’s showing American style dates, or is it truly September)?

Damn. I hope it’s not three months. I was a little concerned that something may be up with CRKennedy, but I see that they’ve been around 85 years...so pretty solid I guess. Probably just not wanting to stock a line with such low demand as has been mentioned.

Yes...nice to support bricks and mortar. I have no such stores where I live, and would be prepared to support them, up to a certain price point.

Distributor seems to be undercutting Camera Warehouse by a fair margin, at least on the KP. I'm guessing this is part of the reason why we don't see Pentax in stores. If, for example, I'm faced with the choice of paying $1,539 vs $999 for a KP body, I'll take the $999 option every time. There are still plenty of people around who never shop online though.

C.R. Kennedy does have a spiel on their site about grey imports and pricing, asserting that their prices are competitive with International pricing (and grey imports) - by and large, I'd have to agree with this. I suspect that the consequence of this is that there is little margin for retailers to play with, so better to sell your Canon's and Sony's, with their quicker turnover and fatter margins.

I'm completely making all of this up with guesses of course (well...except for the pricing example).

I wonder if I should buy a K-1ii now or wait. Low stock because of a new model, is it possible? The K-1 has been out for several years now without a new model. I see some stock in Canada, but not a lot.
