Durability of button markings

Just curious about what others might think.

I have seen markings on buttons of different gadgets gradually disappear after long repeated use, and the buttons on my K-1 might do the same.

I might suggest that you wipe them off occasionally. I know that insect repellents will dissolve some plastics so be careful with that.

I have my K-7 since 2009 and the markings of the buttons are intact. I have had no issue also with my wife's K-01 and my own K-3.

However I take care of my gears (TLC) and I would not wrap the camera, lens or buttons with sunscreen or insect repellant.

My 5 cents.

No major issues with button markings on any of the cameras I have used in my life, and virtually none on the K-7 and K-3 I have owned and shot extensively. But then I'm in the habit of babying my equipment and keeping my hands as clean as possible when operating it. It's just the way I work and perhaps of honouring the amazing precision tools cameras and lenses are.

I have had many different Pentax cameras for years and I haven't noticed any degradation.

Quite a few of my K-3II buttons are near blank. I haven't used insect repellents. A bit more than 50K shots so far.

I have kids and may have applied sun screen on them before handling the camera. Perhaps that also dissolves the button markings?

I've heard that sun screen may dissolve the glue that holds grip rubber etc.

I'm actually curious if the OP has had wear to his button labels, from excessive use of of insect repellent or other.

No label wear on any of my digital bodies to speak of.

I have not exposed the buttons on my K-3 to solvents other than skin oils and after 40,000+ exposures there is visible wear to lettering on the "OK", "Info", and "Menu" buttons. Everything else looks grand. All rubber parts are in excellent condition as well.

I've never noticed any such wear on my cameras or lenses, but I also try to keep my hands clean of lotions and oils.

No. Just aware of it, probably from my backpacking days.

The markings on some of the buttons on my K10D have show some or considerable wear. The EV adjust button the upper right side is almost completely gone. The "O" on the looks almost like a reversed "J"

Multiple buttons mark on both of my K5 and K3 disappear or partially disappear. The Menu, Info and OK buttons are the most used and go away first. I would say it start to be removed within the first 6 months of use. ... Maybe I take care of the gear too good!? Color on every corner gone with in a year. Metal barrel lenses too. Scratch all over barrel but not on the glasses. I admire those with almost perfect looking gear on the market place. My gear can never sell at a good price because it looks old.
