2000 multiple exposures?

Has anyone taken 2000 multiple exposures on one frame with their K-1? If not 2000, what's the most you've used?
I've done 9 many times with previous Pentax bodies.
Thanks,
barondla

I've done 100-200 many times with my K-70. It can't use the electronic shutter, though, so I wouldn't ever want to do 2000. 2000 is 1/50 of the rumored shutter life expectancy. I'm dying to upgrade to a model that features the electronic shutter, like K-1.

Extreme focus stacking is one application.

The K1 still open (live view) and closes the mechanical shutter when Electronic Shutter (ES) is enabled, but the exposure is started and stopped electronically. So we still get rolling shutter on moving elements, and no silent shutter. Nikon does it better with two modes, and EFCS (end of exposure with mechanical curtain) and ES exposure mode fully silent, I don't know why Ricoh didn't mind doing a fimware update to provide fully silent shutter for multiexposure modes.

I used 40-80 exposures for long exposure imitation with 15-30/2.8 lens without ND filter.

The most I ever did with any camera was 240 for a star trail photo. I was using a K-5, manual mode at 30 seconds, and an external cable to lock burst mode for minimal gaps between each 30 second image. I combined the photos with software to show 2 hours of star rotation.

The K-1 is less noisy and offers timed bulb mode, so startrails up to 20 minutes can be done in a single exposure.

Wow... good to know. So the ES mode in K-1 is basically only for the higher shutter speeds? That's a shame. The KP seems to have a fully electronic mode, so I assumed the higher level K-1 featured the same. I'm sure you would have mentioned it if it were the case, but even during a burst in ES mode, the mechanical shutter actuates every single time, right? Then the K-1 won't work for me.

Using the "Average" mode of multiple exposure, you can get an 11-stop ND filter effect with 2000 shots. It's not exactly the same because there are gaps between exposures, but one advantage is that you can stop the multiple exposure if something in the scene changes, and you'll still have a properly exposed shot.

ES mode on the Pentax K1, is a fully Electronic Shutter with mechanical shutter closing at end of exposure and opening up again for live view. And I think the Kp is the same... but I am not sure because I do not have a KP.

The KP stays completely silent between the shots of a burst (for reference:
). I had assumed that this would be the same for K-1 in ES mode. (If you haven't until now) Could you try shooting a burst of 5-10 pictures with K-1 to see if the mechanical shutter actuates between the shots? (Not just before the first shot and after the last shot)

By the way, the sound you hear in the video at the beginning and the end of each burst is not the mechanical shutter - it's the aperture closing down. Is there any chance that that's what you're hearing with your K-1 also?

Yes in burst mode, LV with ES enabled, the K1 does sound like "tack..tack.. tack...tack ...tack" , but the mirror stays up, noise is slightly less coz mechanical shutter only.

No, the lens aperture noise is much less noticeable than the mechanical shutter. So the sound that K1 makes in ES mode is the actuation of the mechanical shutter.
