Pentax K1-II with DA 560mm Vignetting

Greetings !

I purchased the Pentax K1-II a couple of weeks ago. Is it "normal" to have vignetting when using FF lenses such as the Pentax DA560mm ? This is my first FF camera and have been using the lens on a K-70 body and of course, no vignetting, so I'm just curious is this is just a normal issue when using FF camera body. Example image attached

Thanks for your assistance and guidance !

Laura

Yes it will vignette some on the K1. I think even stopped down to F8 I used to see some when I had the pair.

Ohhhh !! So the more stopped down the more vignetting...technically... I will do some experimenting later and see if I can tell a difference. Thank you for helping me understand !

I think the DA 560 was designed for asp-c sensors... but it's capable of working acceptably well on a FF body (with mild vignetting).

DA = Digital APS-C
D-FA = Digital Full frame

And I think the more stopped down the aperture, the less vignetting usually occurs...

Doesn't the in camera correction fix this largely? Or in raw the processing software used should bed able to correct with a lens profile.

It vignettes quite a lot, but it is not uncommon for long primes from other companies also! I was surprised by some vignette numbers from FF lenses being well over 1 or 1,5 stops wide open. As @KiloHotelphoto said from f/8 and smaller apertures I don’t find it to be a problem any more. In any case I was able to correct the vignette on PP even at images where the corners mattered.

No the more you stop down the less you should see it. I think past F8 it was gone but who wants to shoot that high.

I believe Lightroom lens correction did fix most of it.

@Redpit my Canon 600/4 has some at F4 that you only really notice shooting against a bright blue sky and nothing noticeable at 5.6. All of it is fixed with the press of a button in Lightroom

Iím sure your 600/4 is better lens. Itís 3 times the price of the DA and an originally designed FF lens. According to DXOmark it vignettes -1 stop wide open while the DA -1.3 stops according to PFs measurements. About half a stop is a big difference but not something I canít fix in PS using the lens profile on CRaw and make adjustments according to my liking afterwards.

Congratulations to your new lens and camera!
Yes it is "normal".

According to The-Digital-Picture.com, the EF 600mm f4 has -1.2 stop vignetting. this would mean 0.1 stop (or 8%) difference.

Like any image, Laura, just push up the vignette correction slider in your software, eg Lightroom.

I think the problem with the 560mm lens is that the internal baffling is designed for aps-c. Smaller apertures make the baffling more pronounced.

The other point to mention is that no-one buys a 560mm lens for the corners
