RAW processing

I just tried RawTherapee for the first time to compare pixel shift results vs Affinity photo vs Apple photos vs DCU5 and I was surprised how different the results were to the the point that I get more detailed images from a normal RAW file processed in RT than a Pixelshift file processed in DCU5. Has anyone experienced this, what is the cause of the discrepancies?

Perhaps you disabled pixel shift when developing the file in DCU? There's an option for that, believe it or not.

Or if the difference isn't big, it could be due to better interpolation / sharpening algorithms in the other programs. Pentax's JPEGs tend to be over-sharpened when it comes to distant details.

As far as I know, of the programs mentioned, only Rawtherapee and DCU5 (the latest version) have pixel shift processing capabilities. Certainly RT and DCU are the only ones mentioned that have motion-compensated processing for pixelshift files.

Thank you both. I feel Rawtherapee is giving better results so I'll probably use it instead of DCU5

Yep...Contrary to claims elsewhere on this site, Affinity Photo does not support Pixel Shift Resolution.
