But she is "hooked" now:

DA55-300PLM WR
The DA-L is terrible imo
Without WR, the DA16-45 is almost perfect.
Those 2 and the 20-40 ltd. are my only zoom-lenses.
The 16-45 must be a good non-wobbly copy. Great prices from Japan!

Light, WR, BIG RANGE?

I missed which lens she's using now. I like the HD DA 20-40 as a light WR lens for general purpose. I pair mine with my DA* 50-135 which can be had pretty cheaply screw drive converted. The 50-135 isn't "light" but it also isn't heavy.

My K-30 came with a DA 18-55mm; I purchased a DA18-135mm almost immediately; on occasion, I do use the 18-55mm, but frankly I don’t notice any difference in weight.

The Sigma 17-70 might work. The 17 end is f2.8 and it's a good range. I personally love the DA 17-70 F4 but loads of people hate it due to sdm (no screwdrive to convert to either). The 18-135 is faster in the middle focal lengths by a tiny bit and optically better than the kit 18-55.

Aside of not being WR, the K-x wasn't well protected, the E-Dial being one of the worst problems (K-m/2000 wasn't much better).
Even the K100D was far superior in ruggedness. What went wrong with the K50?

I have one set always in my car:
K5/DA16-45/DA55-300/DA18-55WR (the last one I haven't used really, it just is in the bag if ever very bad weather would be the case)
plus a FA50/1,7. All those are very hard worn... but the DA16-45 isn't wobbly (because then you can forget it)

My DA16-45 never suffered anything in cold weather nor in rain but I am careful how I transport it.

DA18-135: One advantage is the quite DC motor, but otherwise, I just found it to be a very boring lens (I know... some see it different, but that was my experience,
after 1 wedding and some landscape I sold it but this was a while ago during K5IIs days). The 18-55WR was better in its range and the DA55-300 is far superior from 55-135mm.

If I'd have to chose just 3 lenses (from my stock!), those might be:
- DA14/2,8 (I prefer it to the DA15)
- FA43ltd or DA55
- DA55-300PLM
(those I had with me on my last trip to the baltic sea with storm-warnings, all on the KP)

Try changing setting so shutter priority instead of focus priority. Or pop the camera into MF mode.

I love the 55-300 PLM WR RE. I don't know if I just was lucky, but this lens is incredibly sharp, contrasty, and the colors absolutely pop. Focus is silent and lightning fast. And it is light and the main - it's incredibly small. Just compare it to the 70-300 Canon makes.
