Shutter count

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for used K-70 to buy and wonder how important the shutter count is. Is there any reason to avoid cameras with shutter count above a certain value?

Grateful your advice.

Some camera within the Pentax lineup have shutter actuation count life span estimations.
However, these entry-level cameras have no official estimation. For many, it's generally considered to be 50,000 actuations.

IIRC with the K70 the more important issue is made 2021 or later because of ABF issues with earlier dates

I'm a beginner in digital photography. What does IIRC and ABF mean and what are the potential effects?

IIRC is a "newspeak" term.....short for "if I remember correctly"

ABF is a camera term and means aperture block failure, which affected early models of the K-70, which is why the member is suggesting you go for a later production run model.

If you purchase a K-70 made before Jan 2021 it has a part built inside (solenoid) which can go bad, see:
A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY: Development of the solenoid in Pentax cameras - PentaxForums.com

From Jan 2021 onwards Ricoh used the 3.rd generation solenoid.

The solenoid actuates the aperture control, ABF is the failure of this mechanism because the solenoid remains stuck.

If you are good in DIY, then it is worth it to buy one with ABF, because they are cheap to have, then you repair it:
Tutorial/Repair Pentax K-70 with aperture-problem: Exchange solenoid - PentaxForums.com

The K-70 has an estimated shuttercount of 100.000, but also important is to know how the camera was treated.
100.000 is quite high, but the higher-range Pentax bodies reach even higher, my K-3 has 160.000 and works well.
I know of somebody whose K-30 has 65.000 and it is fine.

But ABF can happen to an almost unused Pentax with solenoid.
The higher-range Pentax bodies use a stepper-motor instead: K7/5/3/1/KP

A might good Pentax was also the K-S2 (but with the same danger of ABF)
