Japanese K-70 Promotional Website

I just got sent direct mail from Ricoh pointing to these new pages to promote the K-70, featuring some some photographers with different styles.

????? | PENTAX K-70 | RICOH IMAGING
?????? | PENTAX K-70 | RICOH IMAGING
???? | PENTAX K-70 | RICOH IMAGING

I don't think there's any new information in there really, but there are some nice images to whet your appetite if you are waiting for the release of the camera.

I'm not translating the whole thing...

First one is about photographer doing astrophotography with the O-GPS1 unit and the K-70.

Second is landscape photographer. It highlights the SR and then shows a waterfall with 1/13 of a second he handheld because of SR.

Last one is about a photographer's use of the camera's dynamic range controls, highlight correction, super resolution, etc. Oh, and high ISO.

Will the K70 be significantly better than a K3II (dynamic range, high iso noise, shake reduction etc.)

sorry for the hugely open ended question

cheers

Impressive not just because of SR - he handheld the 60-250 for 1/13s
I'd be hard pressed to do that with a 'tiny' 50-135!!

too early to speculate, but it should, K-3 II's noise, DR performance was just okayish. it fared worse compared to 16 MP sensor in K-5. It would be awesome if it performs like the D7200 & D5500.

lets wait for some tests to come out.

D7200 sensor performance isn't awe inspiring by any means or measure. Why set the bar so low?

It seams that there will be a special mode/color theme (red tones) for the display working in darkness. I hope this will be featured in a firmware update for the K-1.

On the second page with the DA limiteds, at the bottom they show the available offerings Ricoh Japan will be selling. I found it really weird that it goes in a kit with the 18-55, not the new 18-50 that would be compatible with video AF??

Only the 18-135 is mentioned as a "kit". The 18-270 and the 18-55 are called "set". It says buy the camera with one lens for this price. In fact other retailers only have the 18-135 and the body only kits. It's the first time I've seen the Ricoh Imaging store advertise sets like this, except with flashes.

But I agree with you that it's a funny choice. Perhaps they're trying to clear stock of those lenses. The fact that you can't get a kit with the RE lens suggests to me that there might be a smaller lighter camera coming out to sit below the K-70 eventually. Contrary to what a lot of people believe, I think the K-S1 has sold as well as any other consumer Pentax in Japan, so I think they'll follow it up with something.

And, as I always add to these discussions today, we need to realize that the K-70 is a member of their consumer line, so it doesn't have the robustness that is routine in the professional line.
People are complaining about a K-30/50/S2 fading/failing with shutter count of 10K or even less; they should not be failing at 2K, but once you pass 5K, anything you get is "gravy".

D7200 tops DXO charts for APS-C

The D7200 tops the DXOmark ranking for APS-Cs and takes the 20th spot in all sensors including Full frames & medium format.

see here.

Nikon D7200 Measurement: Outstanding Dynamic Range - DxOMark

here's the comparison between D7200, K-3 II & K-5 IIs

Pentax K-3 II vs Nikon D7200 vs Pentax K-5 IIs

The K-3 II couldn't even beat it's own predecessor, the K-3 (in noise) or even the aged K-5 II (in dynamic range & ISO); just in detail because of it's higher megapixels. This was a bit disappointing for me.

I'd say the K-3 II's sensor performance isn't awe inspiring by any means or measure, & future sensors must be like the one in D7200 or better.

The K-5 series beat out all the other 16mp sensors, and many 24mp sensors. Maybe now the Pentax 24mp will be like their 16mp sensor was. The images look pretty good, at least.

EDIT: looking at dxomark, it seems the D7200 vs. K-3 aren't that different at high ISO capability. Rather, the D7200 has one stop more dynamic range, and one more bit of color depth.
