Folder numbering

Hi
Can anyone advise me how to prevent a new folder being created every time the camera is switched on. I find this very irritating esp when uploading images to computer. My previous K7 and K5 IIs didn't behave like this. I have consulted the manual and altho' the menu offers 'Cancel' in 'create new folder' (spanner 4)
this seems to make no difference. I have altered the file numbering to sequential but still the new folders persist!
Perhaps it's not possible.
Thanks
ianu

By default, the camera creates a new folder each day. You can change this under the "Folder Name" option: the alternative is that the camera will only create a new folder when you request it via "Create New Folder", or when the maximum number of files has been reached.

What import software are you using? Nothing I've ever used cares about this at all.

If you set the folder name method to "Optional" it will only increment when you "Create new folder", starting at 100, The number is followed by a (up to 5 letter) label. The default is "PENTX" e.g 100PENTX

Folder Numbering

Thank you for your replies and suggestions. I think I am seeking to override the DCIM system but my K5,etc seemed to do my bidding with no problem
ie folder number remained at 100 no matter how often I switched the camera off/on and the files numbered sequentially up to 100-9999 and then 101-xxxx.
Perhaps I need to reformat the card and start again but I don't really want to do that..

I forgot to add that my software (LR) has no problem

Folder numbering

Thanks again for your advice - it worked, the folder number has reset to 100, remains there, and the files number sequentially I didn't realise that I would need to clear the card to reset the system.

Right, if there is a numbered folder on the card when you start the "Optional" method it will increment from the highest numbered folder. Say you have a 541_0439 and switch to Optional mode. It will start from 542PENTX. If you delete all the folders (or format the card) first the camera will create a 100PENTX folder.

I don't know what happens when you hit image number 9999. It probably increment your folder number in that case and start over at 0001. When using the date scheme on my K10D I had a 629_0301 folder with IMPG9999.PEF and the camera made a 630_0301 folder with IMPG0001.PEF.
