PENTAX DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL Weather Resistant Lens for Pentax Digital SLR Camera (Discontinued by Manufacturer)
Listing items as discontinued is common for sketchy Amazon vendors and is a clear indication that one might not want to do business with them.

As for more information about your kit lens, the in depth review on this site should provide tons of details:

Pentax-DA 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 WR Review - Introduction | PentaxForums.com Reviews

(...most of the information at the above link also applies to the gray-banded DA L version commonly bundled with some bodies.)

BTW: The "discontinued" lens is readily available new from B&H and presumably other conventional online vendors.

The 18-55mm WR is not discontinued, and probably never will be as there has to be a cheap, reliable zoom lens out there for beginners.

I bought an 18-135 marked "Discontinued" from an Amazon vendor. Other than being white box it was fine

For the benefit of the uninitiated, "white box" means other than regular retail packaging (often literally a white box) with warranty limited (usually) to whatever is offered by the seller. I have bought white box before and the price was generally worth it

Same here. I've had several "white box" items from reputable suppliers, both "New (other)" and "Manufacturer refurbished" (to use eBay's terminology), and they've been well worth it

You and many others too... and yet, I've seen some *superb* photos taken with the 18-55, in the right hands...

I've seen this before on Amazon and not just on photo gear. I do not know why. 5 years when I was shopping for the DFA 100 Macro WR I saw it marked as discontinued on Amazon. I checked Adorama and B&H and neither of those sites had it as discontinued. Obviously the DFA 100 Macro WR is not discontinued.

That is a shame, since it is a fun lens when weight is a concern. I don't use mine on the K-3, but would have not problem if the intent were to downsample to 16Mpx for printing.

Yes, me too. There is a dedicated thread on this site and while not all are superb, most are quite good to excellent. At Web resolutions, I have no problem at all sharing a few that enlarge and print quite nicely at 13x19. Which, if any, of the below was NOT taken with the 18-55/3.5-5.6 v1.

Adobe Beams

Number 15

Land of the Lava Lizards

Grim and Gritty

Vigorous Hula Hoop #1

Menage a'Trois
