What can an Intervalometer do, that composite modes can’t?

I want to get a wired remote, but for just a bit more I can get a cheap Intervalometer.
But I'm not sure if does anything the camera can't do already.
What (if anything) can an Intervalometer do, that the K-70's composite modes can’t?

Here is a short list:

Allows free use of the various drive modes such as 2s delay, mirror lock-up, and bracketing along with interval shooting
An intervalometer may provide extended settings over the in-camera feature. For example, my wired remote supports unlimited number of exposures and timed "B" mode exposures up to 100 hours in one second increments.
One can use the wired intervalometer to drive the in-camera feature. Example: a series of 5 exposures at 1 minute interval every hour for 24 hours.

Just so long as you remember the wired remote on the K-70 uses a 3.5mm plug rather than the more common 2.5mm. If the remote / intervalometer doesn't come with the right sized plug you can buy a 2.5mm to 3.5mm plug adapter. A 3 pole adapter seems to work even though the Pentax remote has 4 poles - the 4th pole does not seem to be used.
