Setting the preview

On page 108 of the K 70 pdf manual it states that the Optical Preview may be activated to "check the depth of field with the viewfinder". When I attempt to do this I see nothing in the view to indicate the depth of field. What, please, should I be seeing? Thanks. The K 70 is a great gizmo and I am more than pleased with its capabilities.

Perhaps you are looking for a digital number when you should be looking through the stopped down, dimmer image to see what is and is not in focus?

Also, if you're in conditions where the light is low and auto-exposure calls for a wide open lens or you have manually set the lens to a wide or nearly wide open setting, you won't see much change through the viewfinder on preview. Go outside on a sunny day, and select an f value like f16 or thereabouts and try the preview. You should note a big improvement in the range of in-focus objects when the camera previews (though a considerably dimmer view as ProfessorBuzz mentioned).

You just have to look through the viewfinder If the aperture is wide, it won't change by much.
