Tried my first few shots with pixel shift and I’m very pleased with the results.

I needed to photograph some recently completed paintings before exhibiting them so this was my first use of the K-70 for copy work.

From an operating point of view I love the K-70’s built in levels and the swing and tilt screen. I’m using an A Series 50mm 1.7 manual lens so there is a lot of moving back and forth to compose the shot.
Working with indirect natural daylight gave good results with auto white balance.

I tried pixel shift output to RAW and JPEG. The JPEG is fine but Camera Raw 7.4 can’t cope with the PEF file, neither can UFRaw. I had to download RawTherapee 5.4 to get something that will work with this file type.

The DCU program that comes on the disk in the K-70 box will handle pixel shift, but it's very primitive in most other respects. Silkypix isn't terribly expensive and handles pixel shift well. As does Raw Therapee for free.

Can you take the pictures in DNG?

I tried a few Pixel Shift test shots using DNG and they are more widely supported. Windows 10 can generate thumbnails, Camera Raw 7.4 is OK with them.
Another program I tried was Photoscape X (non time limited trial) and that was happy with the PS PEF and PS DNG files.

Interestingly the exif data shows a PEF as 6020x4016 pixels while the DNG reports 6022x4024 pixels

The file sizes for the same sceen are 13Mb for JPEG, 30,9Mb for DNG and 112.7Mb for PS DNG

Raw Therapee is terriblely slow
