Tamron Adaptall 35-70 (17a) on a k70 help needed

Hey all, picked up a Tamron Adaptall 35-70 (17a) with original k mount adapter for pretty much a song. The lens is in great condition and I am excited to finally have a macro but theres a problem. Lens hooks up fine however when hooked shutter speed is not available and the shutter will not fire. I have used other film era manual lenses without any issue, have I missed something and gotten one of the few lenses that wont work with my k-70? Or is there another adapter needed or something else that Im missing lens wise or hiding in the menus? I'm dying to use this lens so I hope all is not lost.
Thanks ahead of time

Do you have the custom menu (the "C" menus) "Using Aperture Ring" function set? You need to enable it so you can fire no matter what state the camera thinks the lens is in.

Yup, what @AstroDave said.

Did your K-70 really come with a printed manual in the first place? I think my K-S2 didn't have one...

I download the digital version in the form of a pdf from the Pentax homepage for when I want to dive into this or that function.
