My bride is gifting me a new lens for Christmas. I'm looking for a telephoto, zoom, beginning at 150 power. Any suggestions?

150 power: is that 150mm focal length or 150X magnification? Big difference in price. How rich is your bride?

It depends on what you want to do with the lens, how much money you can spend, what camera you are using, how large and heavy yuo can tolerate, etc.

Macro : Irix 150mm macro

Consumer zoom : Pentax 55-300mm

Pro zoom : Pentax 150-450mm

Pro primes : Pentax DA 200mm and 300mm

Absurd prime : Pentax DA 560mm

I would agree with the Pentax 150-450 recommendation. Its range starts at 150 mm and it is a telephoto zoom lens.

Now that I have suggestions, I'll get the prices and see how much she wants to cut loose with. She's into cars and condos with her retirement funds.....
