Updating Firmware

I still have the original firmware, version 1.0. Is it worthwhile downloading the latest firmware?

If so, do i just download it, and it replaces/includes all previous updates?

TIA!!

+1. Update your firmware. It is definitely worthwhile.

Make sure that your battery is fully charged before doing so.

I probably should’ve also mentioned that I do not own any of the lenses that this supposedly affects. Do you notice other changes/improvements?

Updating is super easy. It most probably is not only about new lenses.

The K-70 has had fairly limited firmware updates, but these include some general stability improvements, an auto ISO tweak, and some lens-specific adjustments. For the sake of 3 minutes of your time, it is very worthwhile.

Another vote for updating!
The problem with knowing whether there's any improvement is that many of these updates refer only to very specific circumstances. Without an update, you may never experience a problem if you never meet those circumstances, but do you want to wait to find out?
As mentioned … MAKE SURE YOUR BATTERY IS FULLY CHARGED then follow the instructions

Make sure you follow the instructions on the download page carefully and that the battery is fully charged. The latest firmware version include all the updates, so no need to do consecutive updates.

Is it possible to download the firmware file to your computer, hook up the camera to the computer via USB, and then run the update? Or do you have to put the file on a SD Card?

You have to put the file on the SD card. If you don't have a card reader in your computer I believe you can connect the camera to the computer via USB then write the file to the card like that, but I've not tried it. Remember, it's the .bin file you're copying, which is inside the .zip file that is downloaded. Despite the instructions to the contrary, this is not a self-extracting file and you need to extract the .bin file from the .zip file manually.

yes you need to place the unzipped "fwdc234b.bin" file into the root ( highest ) directory on the SD card

Formatting the card in the camera will work fine. Using a USB cable you can then copy the unzipped fwdc234b.bin file into the root (top level) directory of the card (not into the DCIM folder or any sub folder). If you don't have a USB cable, the file can also be copied into the root directory using a SD card reader.

Ideally, yes, it only takes a few seconds. Having formatted the card in the camera you will be left with a DCIM folder on the card. This is normal and can be ignored.
Having said that, I didn't bother. I used a card I had lying around from my K-5 with a few pictures on it, and updated both my KP and my K-70 with it, and subsequently my K-3iii, although I did only have one .bin file on it at a time.
No problems, but not recommended
