@bobV have you seen the ebooks available for purchase?

A member who sadly has passed away wore them and they are far better than the Pentax manuals.

For the color, there are many presets you can choose in the camera or even create your own custom ones. It's another good reason to not use the full auto "green" mode since you then let the camera decide which color setting to use... I would also suggest shooting in DMG + JPG instead of JPG only. The reason being that if you have the DNG file you can generate multiple JPG trying different color settings (and adjust other parameters like white balance, sharpness. contrast...) to find the one pleasing you most. You then simply use this setting when shooting the same kind of picture.

Now, if you really want to fine tune the color and other processing aspects, using a processing software (Lightroom, ON1, DxO...) is the way to go. You can even give a try to the software included with camera (Digital Camera Utility). But it's a whole other question...

EDIT: You can look at this page for examples of each color preset: http://www.ricoh-imaging.co.jp/english/products/custom_image/

A suggestion to the OP. This thread title is misleading given the change in focus. If you go to page one of the thread and edit using advanced the title should be something you can change.
