It's not just the mount, of course, but the barrel changes could be significant - especially for the 55-300 RE PLM. Is the aperture in the fixed, or in the retractable part? The diagram on the RI's website suggest that it's in the retractable part... that complicates things a lot.
In the end, it's like having two different lenses (even if sharing the same optics). Sorry, I'm a K-5IIs owner (no longer user...) myself, but I don't believe that supporting such an older, discontinued model justifies the effort.
Adding KAF4 support - if possible - makes more sense. But... right now there are 7 APS-C cameras (and 1 FF) supporting KAF4, and 1 KAF4 lens. At which point should we say, "good enough"?

I think it would be great if the K-5 could be updated to handle KAF4.

Especially now that I bought one for my K-3, which works great, but Tess can't use it without borrowing my camera.

Yeah that would be nice, since I just bought a K -5 from the Marketplace. My other cameras can use this lens and any others Ricoh decides to give us.

I just had the first time Tess asked to use the lens today. We think her K-5 has 3 more years on it, it might be a long wait.

The one I bought only has 4,386 actuations on it. So, almost new. I hope it lasts a long time, as I don't plan on buying anymore cameras in the future, as it is now, with that one, I have four.

This almost sounds as an agument against implementing KAF4 support on older cameras.

So you want Ricoh to extend suppot on a camera sold by Hoya, so you do not have to buy another camera from Ricoh?

I don't think so. I have two K-30s that are running the hacked K-50 firmware, making them KAF4 capable, and I have a K-50 with latest firmware. So, my pocket is empty now for buying more cameras in the near future.
