Filename from cameras

If my cellphone can output a file with a usable filename like IMG_20161211_165903.jpg why is Pentax limited to the 8 character one which dates to IBM PC Jr, Atari, Commodore 64,...........? Likewise with folder names.

It is the 21st Century in Japan also. Correct me on this if I'm not right.

Personally I think the EXIF needs to come to date using XML. Pentax should lead the way!!!!!!

Also it would be useful to place a symbol in the filename whether the file is PixelShift or HDR or whatever comes later.
