K-1: 1.2x crop mode

I would like a 1.2x crop mode for the K-1.

The D810 has this feature and it increases burst rate, shrinks the resolution to around 25 MP, which allows more shots in the buffer.

Plus it would probably allow more DA lenses to work with less vignetting.

So, please, a 1.2x crop mode for the K-1.

Surprised no other interest in this... that said, does Ricoh Imaging even monitor this forum section anymore?

The frame rate increases with 1.5x crop because the raw acquisition is only from the middle rectangle of the sensor, the remaining data is discarded and not written in RAM, that's why it take more time for the buffer to be full.
However, the 1.2x crop mode is different because it is not a hardware crop on sensor, the crop in software processing after the data is stored in RAM, hence not big benefit of the 1.2x crop mode, same as square more, does not bring a faster frame rate or number of shots that can be stored in buffer. Does that answer your question?

No, your response didn't answer my question. My question was "does Ricoh Imaging even monitor this forum section anymore?"

How does your pseudo technical post even come close to answering my question?

Yes they do, though they will not directly reply to individual posts.

It would.

Really? On the K1, the square mode does not improve frame rate and the number of shots buffered, it seems that the K1 just mask out the pixels outside of 1:1 area.
I did not find much info about the frame rate of the D800 being improved by the 1.2x crop mode. Are there some figures you could share to improve my knowledge?

Thanks, Adam, for the info. I imagine it got to be a bit of a handful to respond directly.

It would be strange if Pentax would not look at the forum. At the same time I would never expect a direct official answer from Pentax here. it would even be unprofessional.
