Room for Improvement in Camera Batteries

I just had a problem with my K-1 not powering up and traced it to bad battery contacts which had developed a film of some kind. At first I thought the battery had gone kaput since the charger wouldn't accept it either and my voltmeter read about as close to zero volts as it could. Scrubbing the surface of the battery contacts with IPA fixed things.

I would suggest a thin gold flash on Pentax batteries since Pentax charges a premium for them. The battery contacts in both my K-1 and K-01 have gold flashing but it does little good if the mating contact is shiny nickel or whatever they use now.

For the small amount of added expense (microinches of gold), it would save some headaches. I don't think there are too many wear issues or Pentax wouldn't be using gold on the battery contacts in their cameras.
