Well, there's a lesson for me there - read the manual and experiment! I've just tried it, and it works perfectly. I'd assumed that RAW+DNG meant proprietary RAW as well as dng. Thanks so much.

Not a firmware thought but an improvement suggestion. I would like an estimated depth of field indicator inside the viewfinder for the object in focus at the applied f stop. Yes I can ‘check’ depth of field but sometime a simple numerical indicator would be nice.

A special DoF tool-mode with the option to display the distance to the active AF-point, hyperfocal distance and/or DoF with current settings would be interesting

Probably a silly idea, but I think it's a great one! It would be really useful. Does any camera actually have one?

I don't think it's a bad idea at all. A few times in the field I wish I made notes, such as saying that from such and such file name to this file name are important, disregard the rest (perhaps, but not so confident to delete the files that i think are not so important), I can't be bothered to dig my phone out and make such notes. This is actually a very good idea.

My old Casio Exilim EX-P600 had exactly this feature
pcworld.idg.com.au/products/image/192/angle/8/1500x1500/121673/

Also pushing the "SET" button did add an marker during the recording - so that you could see and jump between markers when playing the files from the camera.

a newspaper photographer was at an event i was volunteering at, and he had an eos 1d x. he was taking audio notes with it... asking people to spell their names, etc. i've always thought it would be a good idea, but didn't know any camera maker actually did it. this might even be possible through firmware? can assign a button for it. another thing about the newspaper photographer... he was using some wide angle L glass and the corners of the frame are horrible! not acceptable!

The EOS 1Dx allows to add one voice memo to an existing image. Option is described at page 281 in the instruction manual v1.4.

It's still possible to record an video with audio just to cathc the audio with Pentax DSLR cameras as a workaround.

also could use mic in the future as a focus tool... "focus on the eye" or "focus tracking on the bird's head" or "wake me when the bear comes back"

That would be a great feature for 100% manual lenses.

I thought most product photographers had migrated to either a tethered or wireless view setup so they didn't have to fiddle with the hardware as much?

In-camera focus limiter (software-based) would be great!

better articulated focussing points, When focused the red color changes immediately to the (often) hardly visible black.

I agree -- it would also prevent wear on the screw-drive if nothing else!
