I definitely would jump on such a deal. Any issues would surely show up during the warranty period and it's an awfully nice discount.

Nice....I have enough Pentax product to open my own store.

User profile does not list what city they are I . Thought I would be helpful because if it is in Toronto then he should know that the major stores here will honour the camera warranty as if it is brand new.

OP update: I did pull the trigger on this for total cost of $1,995 CAD including tax ($1,899 plus GST, no PST in Alberta). This was through McBain Camera which is an Alberta chain. Other places I had been looking were:

$2,582.65 CAD from Amazon Canada
$2,399.99 CAD from London Drugs (1 in stock)
$2,149.95 CAD at The Camera Store (does not appear to be in stock)
$2,149.99 CAD at Henry's (also not in stock and in a different province, so shipping fees)

For a lightly handled body with original warranty and under 200 shutter count I figure it is the best deal I will find from a retailer at this point in the K1 shelf life. Just a bit dusty on the outside, and I will watch the battery closely for signs of having sat on a shelf at full charge for too long. It's really only about $250 less than some other camera stores I guess, although I am not actually sure those ones can even still order it despite it being on their sites. Or they may also be display models.

Anyway McBain still has 3 display models at this price but they are from busier stores and have higher shutter counts (they checked one other one for me and it was around 2,000).

Thanks for the input all!

Battery....just buy a couple spare on Amazon with charger...dirt cheap. Also...memory cards were the same and cheaper on Amazon.ca than at the major stores in Toronto. Buy both, save hipping, and you ae good to go. Enjoy the camera.

Congratulations, it's always nice to get a deal, the enjoyment factor is enhanced a bit.

Now, What about lenses?

As was asked, "now what about lenses? We here at the Forum are always willing to help someone spend a lot of money when we talk gear and lenses! You now have an amazing camera and need great glass to made it work at prime efficiency! (That is what you tell the significant other when asked.)

I'd got for it, esp if the warranty was alright.

I'm still kicking myself for not jumping on a K-1 demo from Adorama for $1300.

There are people on the forum trying to sell K-1s that aren't giving $500 off. This was truly a no brainer.

It sounded like a deal to me too. It makes me wonder just how much dealers mark up cameras like this, and if I might have a little room to negotiate on price.

negotiate on price ??? In Toronto, I had to wait until our major camera store had a grand opening of a new store and offered $100 off a DSLR such as the K1. No negotiations possible-tried it, no freebies, not even a plastic bag o carry it home ! Nikon and Canon - always have a sale of some kind, Pentax - never. Oh well, that's life- just part of being part of a unique club.
