If you can get your hands on an aus Jena Flektogon 20/4 they're cheap and good. Plus an original Pentax M42 adapter is the best combo for not much money. A 4.5/20 Takumar is also a good option but perhaps double the price.

Welcome to the forums

you will get a lot of suggestions

here is a link to the lenses produced by Pentax which might be considered wide angle:

the first thing I would like to know is what you intend on using the lens for and whether you want a " fish eye " lens or not

As it is a fisheye lens, it produces pronounced geometric distortion in the corners, which leads to a interesting artistics.

Welcome to the Pentax Forums!

Assuming you are wanting suggestions for your K1000, mine would be any of a number of 28mm manual focus lenses available used. 28mm is plenty wide for 35mm film and good ones are not expensive or hard to find. Your camera is compatible with any K-mount lens having an aperture ring. Here are a few suggestions:
  • Pentax-M 28mm f/2.8 -- compact and well-built with decent performance (reviews)
  • Vivitar 28mm f/2.8 CF (Komine-made, ser# 28xxxxxxx) -- sort of a cult classic. I own one and it is on my will not sell list. Versions without the "A" position on the aperture ring are less money and will work well on your camera. reviews
Either one should be available in v. good or better condition for less than $50 USD.

Hi guys, I am considering 2 options. An 28 mm 2.8 or 35 mm 1.8. But I don't know if 35mm is a good option for landscapes.

A Pentax M 28mm f/2.8 would be the perfect match with your K1000. They are not hard to find, quite affordable and a good introduction to wide angle photography.

A 35mm f/1.8 is a very different beast. Firstly, it is not that much wider than a 50mm. Then again, some like the more subtle wideness. Secondly, that super wide aperture is hardly needed for landscapes. It does open up possibilities in low light, if want to get into that.

I have done a fair amount of landscape work on 35mm film and have used a number of different focal lengths over the years, though with most being done with 28mm due to the nature of my usual subjects (big stuff, relatively close). Here are two examples taken from close to the same spot on different days with different cameras, one with 35mm focal length and the other with 28mm.

Kiev 4A, LZOS Jupiter-12 35mm f/2.8

Pentax SV, Super Takumar 28mm f/3.5

The area at the base of Multnomah Falls in the Columbia River Gorge is rather "tight" such that one has the choice of either going wide to catch the full drop or going a bit longer to concentrate on a portion of the scene. Note that even 28mm was not wide enough to grab the full scene to include the lower plunge pool, but going to 24mm might have been a tad too wide.

I'm curious what 35mm f1.8 lens is being considered and if it is truly compatible with his K1000 for a cost of 120 euro (or less). I paid more for my K-series 35mm f2.0 and felt I got a pretty good deal...

Can you share information on the lens, like a link to where it is for sale? It can be easy to purchase a lens online that turns out to be for a different system than what was described.
