Question on usage: K-01 + Sigma 30mm/1.4

I've found what I believe to be a fairly good deal on this setup (<$300 for the setup), and I'm thinking about using something like this primarily for video. I've found some sort of eye cups (though I forget what they're called) that assist in video capture situations. I wanted to see if anyone that had experience with this type of setup can speak to the quality of the intended video use. Any feedback is welcome.

I have a K-5 and a secondhand Sigma 30 mm F 1.4, but only use it for stills.
It is probably the sharpest lens I own (certainly at F 4 - F 5.6), but the focus is critical when used at F 1.4 or F 1.8 because the depth of field for close subjects is very shallow.

Thanks for your input, Chester. I do have the Sigma 85/1.4 and totallya agree - focus, especially wide-open is critical. I wondered how well the camera maintains focus during videos when subjects are moving around a lot. It might just be wishful thinking for me, but at a price of roughly $290 for the K-01 and the Sigma 30/1.4, it just seems to me to be a steal of a deal! And I'm a sucker for a good deal.

I don't believe the K-01 will continuously autofocus while it's recording. If I remember right, Pentax thought the noise would interfere with the audio so they didn't build it in.

Edited to add: I think you can trigger the autofocus while recording...the camera just doesn't do it continuously. I use my K-01 for video all the time, but I'm mostly shooting stationary subjects. I've been very pleased with the results. The trick is to keep it within the framework of what it does best. Low light is tough on it because the noise gets pretty bad in a hurry.

K-01 FAQ
In this section, we answer several user-submitted questions directly, even if we may have already touched on the same topics elsewhere in the review.

Does the K-01 support manual controls in movie mode?

Yes. You can adjust the shutter speed, aperture, and sensitivity before and during recording. You can select the desired mode via the menu or info screen.
Does the K-01 support autofocus in movie mode?

Yes, but only by pressing the AF button (not the shutter release button halfway). There is no confirmation of AF.

Oh I have no problem doing the homework. Convincing the wife to let me buy a(nother) camera - now that's where the challenge happens to be!
