Every once in awhile we get questions/rants why the threads for the PC fitting don't work with generic thread-lock PC cables. The particular problem is that PC cables tend to pull out with little provocation, a historic problem dating back to the invention of the fitting type.* One can use gaffer's tape to secure the cable to the camera, but since Ricoh/Pentax already cuts threads, wouldn't it be nice to make those threads the same as those used by flash/cable makers?
Of course, there is also the problem of replacing lost/misplaced covers. The part is generally unavailable from Pentax with no generic equivalents.

* Even back in the 1950s, camera makers were providing retention collars to work with proprietary cables. I have several bodies featuring such.
