The KP seems to have a deeper-than-usual overhang on the flash housing - Adorama was demonstrating how this affords rain protection to pancake lenses.

I tried that, but have actually found a fine sandpaper like this: https://www.amazon.com/Sandpaper-Assortment-Automotive-Furniture-Finishing/d...fine+sandpaper, works better. Not sure how it would work on a Canon sensor though...

well, Canon sensors can be tough to clean they don't have the same coating as Pentax - I'd go for this . Apollo 135W Multi Purpose Rotary Combitool Multi-Tool & 120 Piece Mixed Accessory Kit in Storage Case. Compatible with Dremel Accessories: Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools

They're very much the exception, not the rule though.

It still happened, LD, and the OP is really annoyed because he didn't understand these things aren't waterproof.

His camera had insurance, however, so it's the inconvenience rather than the cost, that he's stuck with.

Note, he also had a WR lens.

Sure, their experience is still valid. It's just uncommon, that's all I'm saying.

Nice tidy package with the 40mm.

I think we could do with less images of cameras covered in water droplets. It raises expectations and all too often ends in disappointment. I'm fairly relaxed about shooting in light mist/rain or in fluffy snow with non-WR gear, but even with everything WR I'm still not going to leave my camera sitting around waiting for water to pool and seep into cracks.
