Pentax KP hi-res photos here

Hello,

I'm testing the new Pentax KP for a week now and I made a hi-ISO comparison to the three previous generations of Pentax flagship models (namely the K-5, the K-3 II and the K-1). If you're interested, you can reach the KP set here: Pentax KP (In-camera JPEG, NR: auto) | Flickr and you can find the same images at the same exposure settings with the other models in their own albums.

Cheers!

ISO 3200 looks useable, what did you think looking at the full size image?

I think it's useable up to ISO 51.200 - but noise was always a matter of personal taste.

Full resolution at 3200 is pretty impressive. Man, can you imagine trying to push colour 35mm film to 3200? We're spoiled.

Well !!
Even at ISO 6400 the image is excellent.
I thought that my K5 could handle high ISO to at least ISO 3200 and still had lots of keepers but this KP sure beats it by a long shot.
I can only imagine what a K-3 like camera with such high ISO capabilities would do for me when birding in shaded/low light situations.
Thanks for sharing!

What lenses were used for your tests?

Excellent series of test images. The static scene with the book is a particularly useful test of light and shadow performance at high ISO.

Whatever black-magic Pentax is using in the KP, it is doing an impressive job rendering ISO's that would normally be a big problem for APS-C.

I was using a Tamron 28-75/2,8 @ 50mm for the KP, K-5 and K-3 II, and the same lens @ 75mm for the K-1.

I can't wait to see some RAW files from this thing. Just from the jpegs on my phone, iso6400 looks perfectly usable for decent prints.

Looks like ISO up to 102,400 is pretty usable for "must have" shots for website sizes, 51,200 for maybe slightly higher res. Pretty nifty
