The grips don't suit me as they have removed the notch for the forefinger (pinky) so I have the Battery grip fitted for balance with the 300mm. They have also put the green button where the back focus button should be and its uncomfortable for me to focus using the AEL button. I'm getting used to it gradually. Focussing on birds in flight is a huge improvement. I have single point, expanding to 9 points with a medium delay in refocus if it looses the centre point target.
All in all its an excellent camera.
Took this Goldfinch with the 300mm DA* just as it started snowing.
Nice goldfinch!
Yep, Ricoh/Pentax moved the AF button position after the K-5 to where it is now on the K-3, K-70, K-1, and KP (ie, all their newer cameras). I found that on the K-5, I was always pushing the Green button when I wanted to hit AF, so I'm happy for this change. To me, it was the K-5 that was awkward, with my thumb bent down to a hard-to-find location to get the AF button. The new location is much easier for me, and seems to be the standard for Pentax cameras at this time. I approve.
I certainly agree that the KP (my current APS-C camera of choice) has superior focusing and anti-shake compared to the K-5, and also the K-3. The K-1 seems to be about a match. Pentax has been improving what I value over time.
