I've only had the KP for a couple of days and am mostly just playing around with it. But here are my best ones so far:

One of the most common birds in my area.

What a remarkable creature! I am finding that for birding, I can use iso 800 without any reservation. It is the best performing APS-C body that I have used when it comes to iso, not only noise control, but also color at iso 800 is just superb. The K3 was not at that level i.m.o.

The K-3 was a step down from the K-5 both in noise handling and in dynamic range. Hopefully the KP gets APS_c back to where it was.

It does absolutely where IQ is concerned. The best APS-C body so far i.m.o.
Which does not automatically make it an ideal birders/wildlife camera though. I'm having some issues with shutter shock blur at 1/500s with SR on (with the DA560). Using the electronic shutter in OVF mode, the blur is gone though. So it is not the mirror. But the ES is not very practical due to the 1/10s sensor readout time (the Olympus EM1mkII has 1/60s readout time).
It's not dramatic, but not high end either, so the new APS-C flagship should really improve on that.

Hey Chris, can you expand/explain this part a little more to me here, I'm not sure what you mean here but would like to learn more/understand this point.

Ta!

Hello Bruce,

ES, electronic shutter makes no use of the mechanical shutter curtain opening and closing for exposure.
Instead, the mechanical shutter is open, and for exposure, the sensor activates row upon row of pixels and these are read out (recorded). This takes around 1/10s with the Pentax KP. Anything in the frame moving in this time space will be captured in a distorted way, depending on how fast it moves and how much of the frame height it fills. Stationary birds are fine, but fast moving birds are only possible with a sensor with very short readout time (like the Olympus EM1mkII or the Sony A9), or of course with a camera that has a global electronic shutter, where the entire sensor is activated and read out at once. But this is still very much a thing of future cameras, needing a lot of processing power.
The good thing is: ES is possible on a conventional dslr through the viewfinder, although you will have viewfinder blackout (only avoidable on a mirrorless camera). Bad thing: current sensor read out times are not fast enough for practical use with fast moving objects yet, except with thr top end bodies like the Sony A9.

Took out my KP today and stopped by The river about 15 km from the house and as I turned the camera on two mallards swooped in front of me so I shot two images and was happy with the second one so here it is. Then one of a Black Capped Chickadee and a Nuthatch in brush in a flooded area near the road.
