It rained day before yesterday and while I was out taking pictures of the stream by my site (normally a dry wash) I noticed some flowers and little things starting to grow. That’s always a good excuse to pull out the macro lens and try for some raindrops on some of the local plants. I’m not a botanist and so have no idea what anything is.

These were hand-held and it’s been a long time since I’ve tried to shoot macro this way.

Yesterday I pulled out the tripod and macro rails and took a couple of series of photos, walking the focus, then merged them with Helicon Focus. I bought the program last summer at the urging of a friend of mine, but have hardly used it at all. I don’t yet understand the controls but thought that this one came out reasonably well.

All these were taken with the DFA 100mm Macro - I like the lens. I also figured out that trying to take macro photos here in the afternoons is futile - the wind picks up and makes it difficult to keep something very small in the viewfinder.

It’s been fun getting out with the camera again, I have the time now to explore my surroundings with a camera, something I haven’t done much of in the past couple of years.

Thank you for the encouragement, Timb64 and mtngal. I've shot a lot of pictures over the years, but still feel inadequate when I come to a place like this. But, as I do enjoy viewing other people's photos, I should contribute mine, as feeble as they are. It was, for the most part, a pretty day in NE Ohio, but this area is subject to lake effect snow squalls at any time. This road is not plowed in winter, so I was driving through 12-14" of snow anyway, then this started:

That’s utterly fabulous. Great setting, lovely snow, and spot-on composition.

I nabbed me another lorikeet, this time with DA 50-200:

Mum or dad by -Occasionally Focused-

And its chick:

Lori youngling by -Occasionally Focused-

As well as the jump from K-30 to KP, I’ve begun stopping down to avoid chromatic aberration, and increase sharpness. In combination, I’m super-happy with the results.

My recently acquired Pentax KP has had its low light début today in the Adelaide University Elder Concert hall.

Pentax KP - Sigma 8-16mm f/4.5-5.6 @ 8mm f/5.6 ISO 3200 1/60th

I admit I already have a few nitpicks about this camera, but overall it is a very capable photographic tool.

Pretty good figuring out, looks to me. It’s all about the light, and you seem to have managed and used that pretty well

What software do you use to post-process Pixel shift images? I don't believe LR recognizes PS, which is probably why I've never used it.

Well - your image perfectly captures how that site got its name! Beautiful. Must get around to trying pixel shift.
