Lion at dusk. It would have been difficult with my K5 ( ISO 1100 and cropped ) and the Live view manual focus worked well with the lens rested on a beanbag. AF would probably have focused on one of the branches. I did miss focus on the eye, but the fly is quite sharp. That DA* 300mm F4 is a star

This is my first shot in a while. I just received my new silver KP and 55-300 PLM. I'm just getting back into photography, and it seems like I'm starting over. The KP is a beauty, especially in silver.

In this case, it seems the focus point on the nose works quite well! It appears to give the lion's face a good sense of 3 dimensionality instead of the telephoto compression one would expect, and also lends the whole scene the same, with the bushes and his peeking through them. Great shot!

Congrats on getting your new beautiful silver KP! I remember the day I got mine. No doubt you'll find lots to enjoy. Its JPEG engine is outstandingly capable for images right out of the camera, if you are interested in that. Just set "Fine Sharpening" in the Custom Image menus, especially in the most often-used "Bright" category. Access via the info button. In that category, the sharpening level is already up an extra notch by default, just add the "Fine" part using your thumb dial. Then just hit the ok button and shut off the camera, which will exit the screen (maybe the fastest way).

I thought the extra grips were always going to be an add on / extra item?

I just received my new KP from Adorama and it included 3 grips. I thought I would use the smallest one, bit I find myself using the medium and it feels great.

I do have a question. When I played with LV the other night, the screen was gray until I pressed the shutter button. I don’t know what I did wrong. I’m used to the live view on MIL cameras I’ve used.

Sounds like you’ve got the Focus Peaking function turned on,don’t have my KP to hand but expect you can menu delve to confirm and remedy this.

Were you in standby mode? The screen goes off after a minute of non use, and awakens when the shutter is pressed.

Thank you!!!! That was the problem! I turned off focus peaking and the image is back to normal. I’ve used peaking on a Sony and Fuji, but never had a camera that turned the image gray.

It was the peaking feature.

That threw me at first because I use focus peaking all the time and never experienced that. Then I looked into it and noted that there are two focus peaking settings. One is "highlight edge" and the other is "extract edge." Apparently I use the former while you had selected the latter. FWIW, I find "highlight edge" to be very useful; you might want to look into it.

You're probably right, as do a lot of images from Alabama Hills. But I've only gotten around to converting one my AH image to B+W — shot, per usual, with the DA 55-300 PLM:

Some recent shots from my quarantine exercise walks. Using the KP everyday has been fun, reminds me of everything I love about the camera and everything that drives me insane.
