I usually leave the thumb wheel as ISO, but I also leave ISO on auto set to 100-3200 or 6400 and therefore inadvertently turn the range off. I need to figure something else out that’s useful... maybe if I used live view and focus peaking more?

I'm certainly a big fan of Live View, focus peaking not so much but I have had a couple of odd scenarios where it was actually more a necessity than not (to get the shot). Certainly a camera is a varied tool and lots of different ways to approach a shot and some modes can get that shot quicker and more accurate than others. Exploiting the camera to its fullest is never a bad thing.

In the winter and early spring, it's easy to find time to get out and shoot. This time of year, there is so much work to be done with mowing, gardening and landscaping, I find myself not grabbing the KP as often. I'm thankful for those of you who keep this thread full of great photos. I did manage to get this sunset shot the other night.
Hi rmrufener; Fantastic sunset colors! Looks just like Fujichrome Velvia's color palette 😎

WRT AF+ button for AF active area I've been experimenting and still find it easiest to control with the thumb dial, I know it's sacrificing a customisable function but personally it suits the way I work.

Both with DA55-300 PLM.

Beaver by k kwb, on Flickr. This is the smaller of the two I and my wife saw yesterday. It came really close to us and stayed there just floating for a minute or so.

Some adjustments to my button customizations:

FX1/Raw - toggles night view. I always shoot RAW+ so no longer having the option accidentally shoot jpegs is great, and I use the red mode in winter often.

Fx2 - DoF preview. I always leave the level on.

Fx3 - change the 4 way pad from af area to control options.

C3 - focus peaking. I don’t use it often, but it’s clunky to get to without it being on a wheel. Might change it to the LCD display option as having a level on the back screen could be useful.

C2 - LCD display, I think having a digital level can be useful at times. New option for me to try.

C1 - exposure compensation. I use this a lot, especially in winter in AK. Having it as just a wheel is easier than having it on the dedicated button I think.

AF/AE-L - set to AE-L. I rarely used back button focusing.

fx3 - Exposure compensation
C1 - Sensitivity
C2 - Shutter Mode Slevtion
C3 - Custom Image
AF / AE-L - AF2
