KP with SIGMA 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC HSM at 17mm f/4. Single exposure of 40sec at ISO 3200 with astrotracer.

Saturn, Jupiter, Milky Way and Antares by k kwb, on Flickr

From left to right you can see bright Saturn, super bright Jupiter, pink-ish blob of Lagoon Nebula in darker part of the Milky Way, and orange-red-ish Antares, all at around the mid altitude in the frame. You can also find many other nebulae and clusters among other things.

Look at that blinding city light to the left, no wonder I cannot take reasonable Milky Way picture in my back yard.

A few more from Mount Amiata. I went there for hiking with my wife and to escape from the heat at home. I like a lot taking pictures of forests and up there you can find some really nice spots just walking along the road.

But the most emotional moment we had was the encounter with this little fox. We crossed the road where a little river (almost dry) goes behind it and forms a little puddle before popping up on the other side, a place where she (or he) maybe is used to go to drink and we saw her appearing suddenly behind a tree... I asked my wife to stay still to avoid frightening her while I was pointing at the fox with the camera. I had the 16-85 on the KP and although I also had the 80-320 in the bag I didn't even want to attempt the change as the fox was really close and I was almost sure that I would have lost her if I were to loose time changing lens. In fact, even if she didn't look afraid of our presence, she only remained there for a moment, than she moved again behind the same tree and assumed this "plastic pose" on a rock nearby just for the time to take of the picture you see here before disappearing into the forest again... the whole encounter lasted maybe less than a minute, but no doubt has been the best moment of the whole trip!

Many years ago I was hunting deer while sitting on a sidecar pulloff along a railroad track. A fox was hunting mice/shrews/etc. in the grass/brush in front of me and never saw me. When it worked its way to about 10' away I softly said "Boo". It jumped straight up in the air about 2 or 3 feet and literally started running in the air a la Wile E Coyote! Wish I'd had a camera!

Wonderful pic.
