I really like the Heron with the rat? in its beak.

A few at Finley National Wildlife Refuge in western Oregon this morning with the DA* 300 and 1.4x converter. I've been playing with square cropping, and most of these are cropped pretty substantially from the original, as even 420mm on a KP doesn't get you all that close.

Thanks, Mbaez. I think it was a wood rat, though it was hard to tell for sure. The heron caught it, thrashed it around for a bit, then dunked it in a small pool of water three times. It seemed to be washing the rat off. Then the bird ate it, head first, in one bug gulp. The photo shows the bird as it picked the rat up out of the water after washing it, leaving a curved trail of droplets behind.

Maybe not the best. But I like the xmas feel in it and kind of surrealistic magic...

I’m sure enjoying everyone’s photos, and dreaming of being able to handle a camera and go visit somewhere interesting soon. Keep them all coming!

Morning fog blanketing Corner Inlet on a winter morning. Two images with the KP and DFA 100 macro, stitched in Microsoft ICE.

(X-posted from panos thread.)

This was taken on the same morning as the first image in post #2591. I like them both. This one is more minimalist. I would probably include one in my "best of 2020" set, but I can't decide which.
