Is that flare or are they moons? Just 3D printed a Bahtinov filter for the 150-450 and to try it out pointed it at the brightest star in the sky I could see at 6:40pm UK time (guessing Jupiter?) and took this (150 - 450 + 1.4TC on the KP). Other than cropping, it is as it came from the camera. Edit - After reading a bit about Jupiter it looks like they may be the four Galilean moons.

You are correct. It is Jupiter with its Galilean moons.

Thanks - it was a bit of a random photo. I had seen earlier somebody (DonV - thanks never heard of them before) post about the Bahtinov filter, looked them up and thought I would try it out. So knocked up a design and printed it - works nicely. When I first saw the photo I thought that was odd and initially thought is was flare, then thought it might be moons as I couldn't believe the 150-450 was subject to flare like that, hence the post. I then did a bit of digging and found out it was almost certainly the moons. I was lucky to get then nicely aligned like that. I will have to have a proper go next time I get a clear sky. I also need to try out the astro tracer I bought a while back but have yet to use. I have had a hankering to try some astrophotography but have never had time or a clear sky. Intention is to go up to Scotland later in the year and have a go.

Love the tones in the duck pic above, as well as this butcher bird. Great shots!

Here's a few from a recent backpacking trip in Wyoming. All taken with the HD DA 15mm ltd.

Superb image. I’d print it large and hang on a wall!

A very beautiful image. Love the way the reeds-both standing & flat- frame the subject without detracting from the overall scene. Welcome to PF & keep on posting
