Changing focus point on Pentax KP

Pardon a dumb question. I am considering the purchase of a KP. Can you relocate the focus point while looking through the viewfinder? How do you do it? I did not notice a joy stick on the back of the camera.

Same as any DSLR. Select flexible spot by pressing the af button on the side and use the 4 arrow buttons on the back.

Instead of a joystick Pentax DSLRs use the 4-way controller keys to move the focus point or navigate through the menus and other operations.

I'll be honest, I much prefer Pentax's implementation with the 4-way controller keys to joystick-based interfaces (like my Sony cameras)... Both take a bit of getting used to, but I definitely prefer the individual keys...

yes but what is better, in my book, is the ability to press af button and use a front wheel to cycle through the af points and group of points, this should also be while looking through the viewfinder or those that have it via top lcd.

this s something that pentax lacks, unless it has recently been introduced, i'm not sure, but pentax needs to look at this, it is a much better way of handling the af points.

Sorry, Beachgardener, I wouldn't like to do it that way - visiting each point on a 2D grid to get the one you want - I'm sure others feel the same.

Pressing the AF button then turning a wheel up to seventeen clicks to get to the one of 33 points you want? Meh.

Canon let you move diagonally?

Pentax does. MUCH preferable to grid scrolling.

Just to make sure I understand this ....

The last SLR I owned and used was in the days of film. I can move the focus point and see where it is going without moving my eye from the viewfinder? (In other words, I don't have to look at the LCD screen on the back of the camera to see it move?) Thanks.

Correct. The selected focus point(s), either by you or the camera (auto-select), show in viewfinder highlighted in red.

And you can see the selected focus point (or group) move in red (or black) in the viewfinder as you operate the 4-Way Controller.

Any way to still select the drive mode when in selectable af point? My right d pad button usually does this but when selectable af point is on it only changes the af point.

yes move diagonal is good, i prefer to scroll through them, but make do with the 4 way pad, as I am not in a hurry, apart from that there is always af.c and custom function settings for action.
