here are some photos of my set up minus the tether, my thumb is tucked under the hand strap to make it easier to see in the first photo, I have the Pentax 16 - 85 mm zoom attached to the K 3.

the second and third photos shows the "big guy" attached to the K 3 as well
Many thanks Allen, pictures speak a thousand words and you've given me both and the links to match!
Great stuff!
Up early this morning, so I'm having a read of all this information, again thanks to everyone here, it's all extremely helpful...

Camera Padded Neck Strap by ClassicCameraCases on Etsy

Ordered a black one of these but I'm getting a sling too!

I think @Slyfox may have started something? S.A.S. Strap Acquisition Syndrome!
Nothing to do with Hereford

you must decide what is best for you.

I do like the look of the leather strap

one bone of contention among those who use slings appear to be the attachment point on the camera some seem to attach at the tripod attachment, the system I chose attaches at the top attachment point and leaves the tripod attachment open

to each his own

years ago, my dad taught me to hang the camera strap across the body so the camera would hang on my side. my arm could then clamp down on it to help secure it if necessary.

It worked to keep the camera close to my body if I used my arm if I leaned forward as opposed to dangling in front of me if it hung from my neck.

so bottom line, you might be able to use the strap kinda like a sling if you wish.

Think I prefer your way Allen, I just can not see the sense in the camera hanging askew or even upside down? Also taking the tripod attachment out of the equation but then I'm a Landscaper! On top of that I had a strap of some kind which held the camera at waist level upside down and went to reach for the camera and caught the flash housing in my belt and tore it clean off! Not a Pentax I might add, a K3 would have knocked me unconcious for attempting such a thing, "Ard as coffin nails" is the K3

With the op/tech connectors you can easily release the sling once you mount your camera to a tripod or monopod if you want

Please remember that I am an amateur and my opinion and $ will buy you coffee at the diner

There a quite a few posts regarding various sling systems

The flash would occasionally open on my K5. That button is just too sensitive. It never got damaged, though. I've been using slings for years now, with no problems beyond occasionally getting tangled in the dog leashes, which caused a big problem once. Overall I greatly prefer the camera hanging at the side, and lens facing down.

Your'e painting a pretty comical picture there Terry! You should see the state of me sometimes, with a neckstrap, rucksack chest and camera strap and two gripped walking poles! It's a good job the my bettter half comes with me when I go out shooting, so someone is there to untangle the mess! I'm not very up on slings but will do some research into something of good quality with some attachment options within the system...

my better half got tired of lugging around spare lenses for me so that is why I was "encouraged" into investing in a multiple pocketed vest - doable but gets too heavy too fast and a good back pack bulky and awkward at times

Wrist Straps | Lucky Camera Straps

A few more to look at, I would imagine comfort is paramount with the heavier DSLR's

Cheers Beachgardener!
I may end up with one every kind of strap available which will mean I'll have to have at least two KP's.

bosstrap.com works without eliminating the tripod socket and can double as a hand strap.
